Astronomia Casino takes the original Astronomia Concept to a new dimension : the roulette dimension. The base of the Astronomia platform is entirely overhauled and receives a fully functional game of roulette. The base itself is a series of 37 pockets, numbered 1 to 36 in black and red lacquer, and the famed green zero.
The top of the carousel takes on the shape of a roulette turret with its four spokes. The white ceramic ball flies inside the roulette as the impressively fast mechanism is activated by its pusher. The complication is both a mechanical and a design achievement coming together as one flamboyant and unique feature.
Creating a miniature game of roulette required going beyond all preconceptions, innovating and breaking barriers. Caliber JCAM36 is one of the most advanced and complex movements in the Jacob & Co. catalog.
Caliber JCAM36 is a three-dimensional movement with a central, vertical axis. It carries four arms. All of them rotate on their individual axis, and around the central axis. A double-axis tourbillon, a diamond moon, an Earth globe, a rotating dial, its complications take on the form of planetary bodies.
The roulette module is located in the movement base. It spins the wheel-head fast, freely and for an impressively long time. The white ball bounces long and randomly enough to make Astronomia Casino a true portable game of chance.
Caliber JCAM36 builds on the original Astronomia movement. It spins faster and uses a double-axis flying tourbillon instead of the triple-axis one. Removing that third axis saves enough height to fit in the roulette table complication.
A pusher, a train of ball bearings and a finely developed mechanism make for this unique complication, never implemented at such scale. The energy needed by the pusher is low and finger-friendly. The rotating speed, at its best when the watch is set flat, was meant to be as fast and spectacular as possible.
At the end of one satellite arm hangs a flying tourbillon. It's held inside an openworked carriage. It revolves on its axis in 60 seconds. Since it travels along with the central platform, this adds a second axis, with a 10 minute rotation period.
At the end of another satellite arm lies the hour and minute dial. The platform rotation would normally shift the numbers and make their reading impossible. Jacob & Co. has fitted the dial with a patented differential system. It spins in the opposite direction of the platform, at the same speed. As a result, it remains constantly upright and readable.
As Astronomia Casino represents a solar system, it contains our home planet. Crafted out of magnesium for lightness, earth is hand-lacquered in blue for likeness. The shape of emerged grounds and continents is clearly visible. This Earth spins on its own axis every 30 seconds.
Astronomia Casino features a moon. That's the planet chosen to represent the high jewelry part of Jacob & Co.'s identity. This moon is actually a 1 ct. white diamond. Carved from a large rough of extremely high quality, it receives the exclusive, spherical, 288-facet, Jacob-cut. This moon spins on its own axis in 30 seconds.
High rollers, gamblers and chance-takers will recognize Astronomia Casino as the timepiece designed and meant for them. Elaborate in design and functionality, it's also a watch that has literally no equivalent, as are so many Jacob & Co. timepieces.
